Truth Social Eyes Expansion into Live Streaming Amid Financial Struggles

Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, is set to expand its offerings by venturing into live streaming. This new initiative, described by Trump Media & Technology Group as “the next big phase” for Truth Social, aims to host content that has been removed or is at risk of censorship on other platforms. Despite only garnering 9 million sign-ups and operating at a loss, the platform continues to push forward with its expansion plans.

Devin Nunes, CEO of Trump Media & Technology Group and former US lawmaker, stated that the platform intends to become a haven for high-quality news and entertainment that has faced discrimination elsewhere. The content on the live streaming service will include news networks, religious programming, family-friendly films, documentaries, and other “canceled” content.

Truth Social also plans to develop its own content delivery network (CDN) to facilitate faster and more efficient web and video loading, offering services to like-minded websites and programs free from the fear of Big Tech censorship.

However, the company has not yet provided a specific timeline for the rollout of its live streaming service, which will be executed in three phases, ultimately culminating in the launch of a streaming app for smart TVs. In 2023, the operational cost of Truth Social was $39 million, with the company reporting a $58 million loss. Following the announcement of the new live streaming feature, the company’s stock continued to decline, losing over half of its value in the last three weeks. Despite these financial challenges, Trump Media & Technology Group is looking to expand into new markets and secure additional advertising partners.
