Google Upgrades Android’s “Find My Device” for Offline Phones

Google Upgrades Androids Find My Device for Offline Phones

Google is working on a major enhancement for the “Find My Device” feature on Android phones. Soon, you might be able to locate your Pixel phone even if it’s turned off.  This new capability could debut with the Pixel 9, but older devices won’t be left out entirely.

Currently,  “Find My Device” relies on phones broadcasting Bluetooth beacons that other Android devices can pick up. Google is developing a way for phones to store Bluetooth beacons that continue to transmit even when the power is off.

This feature requires specific hardware support, making it unlikely to work on all existing phones. However, the Pixel 8/8 Pro might gain compatibility, and Android 15 will be a requirement for the feature to function.
