EU Asks Google To Remove Russian-Owned Media From Its Search Results

EU Ask Google

The European Union has urged Google to remove RT and Sputnik from its search results in order to stop the spread of misinformation.

According to a recent EU letter, Google is required to remove any link and content to the internet related with the two media sites.

RT, Sputnik, and other Russian state media channels are already restricted on a number of other platforms. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have all announced that they will restrict the reach of their respective platforms’ audiences. It has also been reported that a Dutch Internet service provider has blocked access to these media sources.

Other huge companies, such as Netflix, have opted to cease operations in Russia. Even the normally unbiased DuckDuckGo search engine has announced that it would “down-rank sites affiliated with Russian misinformation.”

These are just a few of the steps the EU is taking to penalize Russia for its decision to invade Ukraine.

These sanctions will have a significant impact on the life of ordinary Russian citizens. As we all know, regular people will bear the brunt of the consequences of the continuing conflict.
