TikTok, the wildly popular video-sharing app, could soon be taking on Instagram with a standalone photo-sharing platform. Evidence uncovered within the TikTok app suggests a new “TikTok Photos” app may be in development.
This new app would allow TikTok users to sync their existing public photos directly to the platform. The leaked information includes potential logos and hints at a “soon” launch date.
TikTok has already experimented with still images through its “Photo Mode” feature, allowing users to post photo carousels. A dedicated photo app would position TikTok as a direct competitor to Instagram. This comes as no surprise since Instagram’s “Reels” were a response to TikTok’s dominance in short-form video.
With billions of users already on TikTok, it’s possible “TikTok Photos” could divert a significant audience away from Instagram. However, TikTok’s future in the US remains uncertain due to potential bans.
