SpaceX has unveiled its upcoming Starlink Mini dish, featuring a built-in Wi-Fi router instead of an external one.
According to the official spec sheet and setup guide quietly released on Starlink.com, the Mini dish offers “Starlink with integrated Wi-Fi,” making it more portable and user-friendly. The dish will be available in a few months, according to CEO Elon Musk.
The new Mini dish weighs only 2.4 pounds and measures 11.75 inches by 10.2 inches, about the size of a laptop, making it easy to transport. It requires just 25 watts of power, a significant reduction from the 75 to 100 watts needed for the standard Starlink dish. Despite its smaller size, it’s built to withstand outdoor conditions, operating in temperatures from -22°F to 122°F and has an IP67 rating for water resistance.
While the built-in modem supports Wi-Fi 5, it lacks the Wi-Fi 6 capability previously hinted at by FCC documents. The Mini dish, priced around $250 to $300, will initially roll out in select areas, though the monthly internet fee remains unspecified. SpaceX aims to make satellite internet more accessible and portable with this compact design.
