Meta (Facebook) has announced that End-to-end encrypted messaging is now available to all users as an optional feature in Messenger. Along with the update, they included some great features such as screenshot notification and other improvements.
Screenshot notifications
This will notify users when a screenshot of a disappearing message is captured in their end-to-end encrypted conversations. This function is comparable to the Vanish mode.
Messenger is also introducing GIFs and Stickers, as well as Reactions and other features, to end-to-end encrypted chats:
Meta had planned to make E2EE a default, but this may not happen until next year due to concerns from various authorities that it might jeopardize public safety. Regulators have said that encryption would eliminate the ability to monitor offenders of crimes such as the distribution of child abuse materials and others.
On the other hand, most users want more privacy on their messaging apps in order to avoid being exposed to risks such as blackmail, and it also enables companies to conduct more secure talks.
How you feel about this new feature will be determined by your own personal viewpoint.
