Phishing actors have started to exploit the newly identified Omicron Variant of COVID-19 by sending fake emails.
Hackers are targeting the UK by pretending they are from the National Health Service (NHS). Victims are offered a free Omicron PCR test to help them get around with restrictions. This gives hackers a way to get data from the victims, like personal information and banking credentials.
Things to do if you fall victim:
- If you feel you have compromised your bank credentials, call your bank directly to double-check and cancel your card/accounts if needed.
- Make it a habit to monitor your bank account closely and review transactions.
- If you get any suspicious email, report it at “[email protected]” or forward the email to [email protected] Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG).
