Meta’s Threads app continues to adopt features similar to Twitter, with the latest addition of trending topics. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the rollout for US users, promising an easy way to discover what’s buzzing on the platform.
The feature initially underwent testing in February and is now available for US users. To see what’s trending, simply tap the search icon and find a list of curated topics above suggested follows. Unlike Twitter’s extensive trending list, Threads keeps things simple with only five topics at a time.
Threads employs a combination of human review and Meta AI to determine trending topics. The emphasis on careful curation aims to avoid some of the content issues Twitter has faced. While primarily focused on general interest topics, Threads does acknowledge that political discussions may occasionally surface in the trending section.
