Nintendo has announced plans to unveil the successor to its popular Nintendo Switch console within the next 10 months, by the end of the fiscal year in March 2025. The disclosure came from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa during a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. This announcement will mark nearly a decade since the introduction of the original Nintendo Switch in March 2015.
Furukawa clarified that the upcoming Nintendo Direct event next month will not feature the new console. Nintendo typically hosts Direct events three times annually, suggesting that the new console might be revealed in one of the later events, potentially during the fall season. Occasionally, Nintendo holds special Direct events focused on specific products, indicating a possible separate showcase for the new console.
Despite anticipation building around the new console, Nintendo expects to sell 13.5 million Switch units this fiscal year, which would represent a 14% decline from the previous year’s sales. Nonetheless, with over 141 million units sold, the Switch remains Nintendo’s top-selling console to date.
While the successor could be announced soon, its actual market release might follow later, similar to the original Switch, which launched two years after its announcement. Fans and industry watchers are eagerly awaiting more details on what could be the next big innovation in Nintendo’s console lineup.
