Avis Data Breach Exposes 300,000 Users Personal Information

Avis rental car company is notifying around 300,000 U.S. consumers that their personal data may have been compromised in a recent data breach.

Discovered on August 5, 2024, hackers gained access to one of Avis’ business applications, potentially stealing sensitive customer information including names, addresses, credit card details, and driver’s license numbers.

The stolen data can expose victims to identity theft and fraud. Avis has responded by offering one year of free credit monitoring to affected users and advising them to consider placing a credit freeze with major agencies to prevent fraudulent activity.

Avis suspects insider involvement in the breach and is working with cybersecurity experts to implement additional security measures and enhance its systems.
