Google is reportedly in the final stages of acquiring cybersecurity startup Wiz for approximately $23 billion, marking its largest acquisition ever. This deal would surpass Google’s previous record, set by its $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility in 2012.
Wiz, founded in 2020, provides cybersecurity software tailored for cloud computing. The company has rapidly secured a roster of prominent clients, including Bridgewater, FOX, and Colgate-Palmolive. Earlier this year, Wiz raised $1 billion, achieving a valuation of $12 billion, a notable accomplishment outside the booming AI sector.
The acquisition is expected to bolster Alphabet’s cloud computing division, which currently trails behind its leading competitors. The Wall Street Journal highlights that integrating Wiz’s technology could significantly enhance Google’s cloud security offerings and overall infrastructure.
In 2023, Wiz reported $350 million in annual recurring revenue, reflecting its robust growth. The startup is supported by notable venture capital firms such as Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures, and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
If completed, this acquisition would underline Google’s strategic focus on enhancing its cybersecurity capabilities and strengthening its position in the cloud computing market, intensifying competition with industry giants.
