Beware of a fake WalletConnect app that has stolen over $70,000 in crypto from 150 victims.
Originally listed on Google Play as “Mestox Calculator,” this malicious Android app later changed its name to “WalletConnect – Crypto Wallet.” After tricking users into connecting their crypto wallets, the app silently drains their assets.
The app operates as a web browser, redirecting users to a malicious site if their IP fits specific criteria. It’s tied to “MS Drainer,” malware used by scammers to steal funds.
The drainer malware has been linked to phishing ads on Google and X (formerly Twitter), costing victims millions.
If you’ve installed this app, delete it immediately, and always double-check crypto apps before connecting your wallet.
