Cloudflare Defends Against Record-Breaking 3.8Tbps DDoS Attack

Cloudflare successfully defended against a record-breaking 3.8Tbps DDoS attack, surpassing the previous high of 3.47Tbps faced by Microsoft in 2021.

This attack was part of a month-long campaign involving over 100 large-scale volumetric DDoS attacks, primarily targeting financial, internet, and telecom sectors.

Cloudflare’s global server network and autonomous real-time traffic filtering allowed it to mitigate the attack.

The campaign was traced to a botnet of hijacked devices, including routers and web servers, used to launch a UDP flood attack. Many of the compromised devices exploited unpatched vulnerabilities, highlighting the risks of unsecured hardware.
