Entire iPhone 16 Lineup to Feature Next-Gen A18 Chips, Leak Suggests

Entire iPhone 16 Lineup to Feature Next-Gen A18 Chips

Apple’s entire iPhone 16 lineup may feature next-gen A18 chips, according to a report by MacRumors. This marks a departure from the current iPhone 15 series, which uses different chips for different models: the A17 Pro for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and the A16 Bionic for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.

Nicolás Alvarez, who uncovered the back-end code, identified that all iPhone 16 models share internal identifiers starting with the same number. This suggests a uniform chip for the entire lineup. However, there’s speculation that Apple might introduce variants like an A18 for the standard models and an A18 Pro for the higher-end ones.

Interestingly, the code lists five “iPhone 16” models, which could include a new iPhone SE. Rumors indicate this SE model might be a thinner, more affordable option, potentially launching in 2025 for under $500.

Overall, the iPhone 16 is anticipated to be a modest hardware update. However, equipping all models with more powerful chips aligns with the upcoming release of Apple Intelligence, a feature that will need at least an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max to operate.
