YouTube is launching Veo, a new AI text-to-video generator, into YouTube Shorts later this year. Initially, Veo will allow creators to generate AI backgrounds with a “Dream Screen” green screen feature, offering fresh creative possibilities. Full six-second video generation is expected in 2025.
This move aligns YouTube with competitors like TikTok and Instagram Reels, offering creators more flexibility. Alongside Veo, YouTube is adding other AI-powered tools, including an automatic video dubbing tool in multiple languages and AI-generated titles and thumbnails for faster content production. Creators can also brainstorm ideas and generate video outlines using these features.
To support new creators, YouTube is rolling out “Hype points,” which allow lesser-known channels to gain visibility. Videos with the most Hype points will appear on a leaderboard, helping smaller creators find new audiences.
Additional features include a “Community” tab in YouTube Studio for direct fan interaction and AI-enhanced reply suggestions to engage with top commenters.
YouTube is also enhancing tools for creators focusing on TV screens, allowing them to organize videos into seasons, improve subscription options, and optimize their content for TV viewers.
