SAG-AFTRA has taken a significant step in protecting voice actors in the age of AI, striking a deal with the AI startup Narrativ. This agreement allows union members to upload short audio samples, which advertisers can use to create AI-generated commercials. Voice actors have the power to accept or reject these projects and even set their rates, starting from $385 for a four-week ad.
This collaboration centers on three key principles: consent, compensation, and control. Voice actors can opt out of having their voice used in specific categories or brands, ensuring their digital likeness is protected.
The deal is a part of SAG-AFTRA’s broader effort to give performers more control over how their voices are used in AI-driven media, following a similar deal with Replica Studios in January for video game voiceovers.
This innovative agreement not only opens new revenue streams for voice actors but also provides advertisers with advanced tools for customizable and impactful ad campaigns.
