New DuckDuckGo AI Chat Ensures User Privacy with No Data Retention

New DuckDuckGo AI Chat Ensures User Privacy with No Data Retention (1)

DuckDuckGo has introduced a new chatbot feature that emphasizes user privacy by not training on personal data. This free service, called DuckDuckGo AI Chat, provides access to popular chatbots like OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, and Meta’s Llama 3 without exposing user data to AI training.

The company ensures complete anonymity by submitting its own IP address for chat inquiries and not storing any chat records. Users can select from four chatbots, with a privacy policy that guarantees retention of intellectual property rights over prompts and outputs. However, no chatbot history can be retained due to strict privacy controls.

To offer another layer of protection, DuckDuckGo has agreements with chatbot providers to delete any temporary chat data within 30 days and not tie it back to individual users.

The service, accessible through a chat tab next to the DuckDuckGo search box, is currently limited to the GPT-3.5 Turbo model but may expand to more advanced models under a potential paid plan.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT also offers users an opt-out from AI model training, aligning with DuckDuckGo’s commitment to user privacy.
