Google Gemini Expected to Partner with Apple Intelligence

The competition to partner with Apple on AI technology is intensifying. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts that Google’s Gemini could be the next chatbot integrated into Apple Intelligence.

At the recent WWDC, Apple’s SVP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, announced a collaboration with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Apple devices. During his keynote, Federighi mentioned that Apple is open to working with other AI companies, and hinted that Google Gemini might be a future candidate.

While Federighi emphasized that there was “nothing to announce right now,” Gurman suggests that Google and Anthropic are strong contenders, with Google likely to be announced around the launch of Apple Intelligence this fall.

There were also rumors of Apple having discussions with Meta, Anthropic, and Perplexity. However, Meta was reportedly ruled out due to privacy concerns.

According to sources, whichever company partners with Apple Intelligence, there will initially be no financial exchange. Apple is offering a presence on its devices and potential increases in subscribers for premium chatbots as sufficient compensation. With iOS holding over half of the US smartphone OS market share as of March, this partnership could be highly beneficial.

In the future, Apple might introduce its own premium AI service, Apple Intelligence+, potentially taking a cut of partner revenues to offset slowing hardware sales, according to Gurman.
