Instagram may soon let you pinpoint your friends’ locations on a map. The rumored “Friend Map” feature is still under development, but leaks suggest how it might work. Software developer Alessandro Paluzzi – who often reveals Instagram features early – shared screenshots on his social media platforms Threads and X.
If released, Friend Map would likely allow users to choose which friends can view their location. A “Ghost Mode” would provide the option to hide your location entirely. For further privacy, the feature seems to utilize end-to-end encryption.
The concept mirrors Snapchat’s popular Snap Map feature. It might even let users add notes to the map, allowing them to share information like fun events or shopping plans with their friends.
It’s important to note that this feature is still a work in progress. There’s no guarantee Instagram will officially implement it. However, the potential for a Friend Map feature shows how the platform continues to explore new ways for friends to connect and share experiences.
