Google has announced its plans to expand support for real-money gaming (RMG) apps within its Android ecosystem. This move will see an increase in the variety of gaming apps available on Google Play, where users can pay a fee to play games like trivia or bingo, with the chance of winning more money.
In 2021, Google began integrating RMG apps into the Play Store in regions with established online gambling licensing frameworks. Following a successful pilot program in India with Rummy and Daily Fantasy Sports, Google gained insights into the operation of these businesses within its platform.
Starting in June, Google will extend RMG app support to users in India, Mexico, and Brazil, with plans for further expansion into other countries. This expansion will include games not currently covered by licensing frameworks. However, these games must comply with Google’s developer policies, which include age and geo-gating to prevent underage and illegal gambling.
Additionally, Google is revising its service fee model for RMG apps, though specific details of this adjustment remain undisclosed. This policy change reflects Google’s evolving approach to integrating RMG apps into its digital ecosystem, balancing business opportunities with legal and ethical considerations.
