A new iPhone bug has been discovered that causes devices to crash briefly when certain character combinations are typed. The issue was first identified by a security researcher on Mastodon.
To replicate the crash, navigate to the App Library, search for “”:: (two quotation marks followed by two colons), and your iPhone may immediately display a black screen with a loading icon before rebooting.
PCMag confirmed the glitch, noting that the phone reboots after a few seconds. Other combinations, such as “A” and A “”::, have also been reported to cause the same issue.
This isn’t the first time an iPhone bug has been triggered by specific text sequences. In the past, symbols, Arabic characters, and even an Indian Telugu syllable have caused similar crashes, prompting fixes from Apple. While this glitch appears to be harmless, its full impact is still unknown, so proceed with caution if you decide to test it.
