Google has announced that its Gemini AI is being integrated into Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail as a sidebar for paying users. Gemini 1.5 Pro will provide functionalities such as document search, email summarization, and automated slide creation.
In Gmail, Gemini will assist in writing and summarizing emails, while in Slides, it can create agendas, new slides, and custom images. For Sheets, Gemini will generate templates, formulas, and sort data. The integration extends to the Gmail app on iOS and Android, offering features like email highlights, with more to come.
These features will only be available to users with Google Workspace, Gemini Education, or Google One AI subscriptions. Free users won’t see these AI tools unless subscribed.
Privacy concerns arise as Gemini collects data from user interactions to improve its services, consistent with Google’s Privacy Policy. This includes users’ location, feedback, and product usage information. The rollout for most paying users is expected within 15 days.
Despite some issues, such as inaccurate image renderings, Google continues to expand Gemini’s capabilities, emphasizing its benefits in streamlining document and email management for subscribed users.
