Instagram is enhancing user experience by introducing new tools to manage spam comments and fake followers. The platform announced this week the rollout of features aimed at users with significant followings who often face such digital nuisances.
A key update is the automated filtering of suspected spam or bot accounts. These accounts will be segregated into a separate inbox, which includes existing followers that Instagram flags as potential spam or bots. Users have the option to review and approve any legitimate accounts mistakenly filtered. Additionally, Instagram has introduced a “Delete all spam followers” feature, allowing users to remove these accounts en masse without sending notifications.
The updates also extend to tag requests. Instagram already has measures to prevent unwarranted tagging, but with the new changes, spam tag requests will be grouped together for easier review and removal. If unaddressed, these tag requests will automatically be deleted after 30 days.
Instagram is further exploring options to improve user safety and content quality. One experimental feature involves “hiding views on your stories that we think may be spam.” Moreover, the platform is testing a proactive approach to content management. This includes an in-app nudge for users about to post content that violates community guidelines, offering them a chance to reconsider before publishing.
These changes reflect Instagram’s ongoing commitment to creating a safer, more authentic online environment for its users.
