Apple is set to introduce artificial intelligence capabilities to iOS 18, with processing occurring directly on iPhones, bypassing cloud services. This approach enhances security and privacy since data doesn’t leave the device. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that these AI features will operate without requiring an internet connection.
The tech giant has been developing its own large language model, named “Ajax” internally, and has made significant advancements in running AI efficiently on devices with minimal memory use. This initiative follows Apple’s strategic acquisitions of several AI companies, underscoring its commitment to integrating AI across its applications.
Expected to debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, the AI enhancements will primarily improve applications like Messages, Safari, Spotlight Search, and Siri. During Apple’s recent earnings call, CEO Tim Cook emphasized the extensive resources devoted to AI development, highlighting its potential impact across Apple’s services and products.
