The LockBit Ransomware group has allegedly obtained sensitive information from SpaceX by targeting a third-party contractor.
The group claimed that they gained access to the data through Maximum Industries, a Texas-based firm that provides waterjet and laser-cutting services to large corporations, including SpaceX.
According to LockBit, they have managed to acquire approximately 3,000 certified drawings from SpaceX engineers. To substantiate their claims, the group released a few of the stolen documents, including a drawing that appears to depict a Raptor V2 engine from the space company led by Elon Musk.
“This document is confidential and proprietary to SpaceX,”
The LockBit ransomware group intends to sell the stolen drawing at an auction, but only if SpaceX fails to meet their ransom demand. In a statement, the group addressed Elon Musk, stating that “Elon Musk we will help you sell your drawing to other manufacturers —build the ship faster and fly away,”
They also threaten to leak more stolen data from SpaceX in about five days.
Neither SpaceX nor Maximum Industries have confirmed the legitimacy of the reported breach thus far.
