Google is preparing to introduce an updated user interface for some of its cloud-based programs, including Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

The new release update will use the newest version of Google’s Open-Source Design framework, Material Design 3. The main goal of the redesign is to clear some clutter and give a cleaner design.

With Docs, Sheets, and Slides, users should anticipate the most commonly used tools to appear at the top of the user interface, and the experience of utilizing existing features such as comments, backdrop, rulers, and gridlines has been improved. Google does warn users, though, that certain elements have been relocated to reduce clutter on the UI.

They also included other feature enhancements, such as the ability to select multiple objects and do batch activities, additional search chips (containing type, owner, and last changed) to help users discover files quicker, and Drive will show essential actions inline on files to increase productivity.

Google plans to begin rolling out the update to all users on March 6, with the new look expected to be available by March 25 if no unexpected delays arise.
