Tesla E-vehicle owners may now play steam games at any time as long as they pay for premium connectivity.
Tesla released their “Holiday Update” for its e-vehicles on Tuesday, which includes Steam connectivity. The company showcased in a trailer video by playing Cyberpunk2077 on the vehicle’s screen display, and owners may also add a Bluetooth controller.
In July this year, Elon Musk teased by posting on Twitter “We’re making progress with Steam integration. Demo probably next month”. For now, Steam games can only run in “new Model S and X vehicles,” based on their Tweet.
Because of their AMD Ryzen CPUs, which include an integrated GPU, the Model S and X vehicles can run Steam. Tesla’s version of Steam is not the Windows version, but rather a Linux-based version available on the Steam Deck.
The holiday update release notes stated: “This feature is available on Model S and X (year 2022+) with 16GB DDR memory, and requires Premium Connectivity,” which costs $9.99 per month.
The update also notes that: “With Steam’s cloud synchronization, resume your game from your Tesla or any Steam device. To access Steam, tap the Application Launcher > Arcade.”
Other cool features among the Holiday updates include video-conferencing app Zoom and Apple Music, as well as a new “Dog mode” that allows owners to view the Tesla’s cabin camera to keep eyes on a pet inside when they’re gone from their cars.
